Comprehensive eye exam
Our comprehensive eye exams are designed to provide you with a thorough evaluation of your eye health and visual acuity.
Here's what to expect during your comprehensive eye exam:
Upon completion of your comprehensive eye exam, we will discuss our findings and provide personalized recommendations for maintaining or improving your eye health. Whether you require corrective lenses, lifestyle adjustments, or further testing, our dedicated team will guide you every step of the way.
Here's what to expect during your comprehensive eye exam:
- Patient History: We will begin by discussing your medical and ocular history, as well as any concerns or symptoms you may have.
- Visual Acuity Test: This test measures the sharpness of your vision, typically using a Snellen eye chart.
- Pupil and Eye Movement Evaluation: We will evaluate your pupils' response to light and assess your eye muscle function to ensure proper alignment and coordination.
- Refraction Assessment (This may be covered by VSP or out of pocket): Using a phoropter, we will determine your eyeglasses prescription. This assessment helps us identify the lens power needed to correct any refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
- Peripheral Vision Test: Peripheral vision loss may be due to conditions such as glaucoma or neurological disorders.
- Eye Pressure Measurement: We will measure your intraocular pressure using a tonometer to screen for glaucoma, a condition that can lead to vision loss if left undetected.
- Slit Lamp Examination: Our team will utilize a slit lamp, a high-powered microscope, to examine the structures of your eye in detail. This examination helps us identify any signs of infection, inflammation, or other abnormalities.
- Retinal Examination: This may be performed with either a special photographic device or after dilating your pupils with specialized eye drops. Our ophthalmologist will examine your retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels to detect any issues, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, or retinal detachment.
Upon completion of your comprehensive eye exam, we will discuss our findings and provide personalized recommendations for maintaining or improving your eye health.
